Souris Odds-on Not To Make Correct Weight

IT'S well-documented that Upper Hunter State MP George Souris was a handy Rugby player in his day. Now his new Coalition leader John Brogden reckons Souris may have potential in other areas of sporting endeavour.
But a little wasting will be required.
Newcastle Herald political reporter Scott Tucker attended a press gallery lunch at Parliament House last week, with Brogden (left) as guest speaker.
Tucker tells us that Brogden said that, if elected, he'd make his Ministers spend time at the `coalface' of their portfolios to ensure effective community representation.
Veteran Channel Ten political reporter Paul Mullins immediately piped up, asking Brogden if NSW could then expect a Coalition Minister for Gaming and Racing down at Randwick nice and early each day for some track work.
The Coalition's spokesman for that portfolio is National Party leader Souris (right).
`George Souris is six foot two, so it would have to be an enormous horse to carry him around the track at speed,' Brogden quipped.
